chance2tliwosc – kræng

Sourced by recordings of the years 2022 and 2023 kræng has become mostly a collection of loops and little motifs. There’s one thread/theme/topic that keeps most of its pieces together: The imagery of “Manhattan Transfer”, a book written in the early 20th century by John Dos Passos which depicts mostly migrant people’s lives and fate in New York City between 1880 and 1930.
This is where also the title is taken from: krängen or krengen (german)
in the language of the seamen means to list, i. e. a ship which is tipping to the side.
Other pieces stand for themselves, as seemingly monadic listenings, beautiful as they are.

chance2tliwosc (inspired by the polish word częstotliwość ‚frequency‘) is a project of drummer Christoph Weilbach which combines the sounds of acoustic drums with synthesized/electronic sounds. The path of the signals from the drums into a computer where they are transformed, processed, manipulated provides a framework for experimenting and improvisation through interaction between drumming and sound synthesis.
