Dardis – Reinventing the Wind
A trilogy of sounds inspired by the theme of ‘air’.
DARDIS is a Northern Irish sound artist known for his experimental ambient and noise-based compositions. His work explores themes of personal struggle, political unrest and emotional intensity through abstract soundscapes.
He describes his interest in ‘structure and anti-structure;: building patterns in sound only to distort and dismantle them. This approach is both a sonic and philosophical statement, aligning with his desire to confront discomfort through art.
In previous work, DARDIS has explored the textures of running water and objects interacting with this; in ‘Reinventing the Wind’, DARDIS turns to wind power. “In sound, I am constantly looking for elements that stand outside of my control. This work has been inspired by listening to wind patterns, storms, faulty air vents, the shake of forests, even paying attention to how wind can distort sound, like hearing a busker play out in a windy street. I wanted to capture that dual sensation of the tranquillity that nature brings, and the threat, the destructive force of wind. These tracks are forged from the tension between these two states.”
