eumourner – Tongue Tied Oracles

The oracles were believed to be intermediaries between gods, demons, beasts and humans. People traveled from far and wide to seek their counsels. They were known for their ability to predict the future, to provide answers to complex questions and puzzles through dreams and visions and were often consulted on matters of war and other major curses.
The oracles were worshipped for their terrifying rituals: those who sought their counsels had to undergo a series of frightening experiences, sometimes inhaling vapors that induced trances. The oracles were said to be able even to cure diseases and were often consulted by kings, generals, priests and other slaves of the kind.
The oracles were said to understand the truth observing the movement of a sacred serpent that lived in a nearby cave, and to deliver prophecies interpreting the sounds of bronze vessels clanging together or even through the rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds.
The oracles were believed to possess the ability to communicate with the dead: in fact, leaders and rulers often consulted them before declaring new wars or establishing new laws, influenced by the natural hallucinogenic gases emitted from the earth.
The mysterious nature of oracles makes them compelling characters in fiction. Some people believe that they can still be found in certain sacred and hidden places: KEEP LOOKING, FOLKS!
