The Owl & Sonaura – Psithurism

Psithurism by Sonaura and The Owl is a split album dedicated entirely to the acts of listening, sonic transformation, and slow discovery.

Sonaura’s contribution leads deep into a nocturnal, subterranean soundscape: sounds from the immediate surroundings evolve into a dark journey through the forest and into damp caves and chambers, where siren-like calls, grinding wheels, and wailing machines echo.

The Owl approaches the material from a different angle, transforming recordings of trains, nature, woodworking, and other everyday atmospheres into hypnotic—and at times bizarre—sound loops, overlaid with waves of synthesizers and delicate electronic layers.

Throughout this journey, Psithurism remains pleasantly unpredictable. Waves of synthesizers and finely woven electronic layers overlay the original recordings without obscuring their raw, physical quality. Instead, they heighten the sense that a distinct world lies hidden behind the sounds – a world existing somewhere between nature, machine, and memory.
